A Gentle Answer

Day 171

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Proverbs 15:1

Read Scripture in Context →

Pause & Reflect

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Conflict has momentum. One harsh response invites another. Volume increases. Defensiveness grows. Soon the original issue becomes buried beneath the way people are treating one another. Gentleness can interrupt that cycle. A gentle answer does not mean surrendering truth. Sometimes the gentle answer is firm: “That is not acceptable.” “I disagree.” “We need to discuss what happened.” The difference is that gentleness refuses unnecessary aggression. You cannot control how another person responds. But you can decide what spirit you bring into the conversation.

Declare It Today

“I will not allow another person's anger to determine my character. By God's grace, I will speak truth firmly when necessary and gently whenever possible.”

Let's Pray

Holy Spirit, govern my responses in difficult conversations. Give me wisdom to know when to speak, when to listen and how to answer without unnecessarily increasing conflict. Amen.
