Pause & Reflect
Paul commands believers: “Be filled with the Spirit.” The surrounding verses show what Spirit-filled life begins to produce: worship, gratitude, mutual submission, and a community shaped by God. Being filled with the Spirit is not presented merely as an extraordinary emotional experience. It changes how we live. The contrast Paul makes with drunkenness is significant. One influence leads toward loss of godly control; the other brings life increasingly under God's influence. So the question is not only: “Have I had a powerful spiritual experience?” Ask: “What increasingly influences my life?” What controls my responses? What shapes my words? What directs my decisions? What occupies my mind? We need continual filling because we need continual dependence.
Declare It Today
“I desire to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. I yield my life to God's influence and want His presence to shape my worship, gratitude, relationships and conduct.”
Let's Pray
Holy Spirit, fill me afresh. Expose influences that compete with Your work in my life. Bring my thoughts, words, relationships and decisions increasingly under God's gracious rule. Amen.
