Pause & Reflect
Paul tells God's people to put on: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and above everything, love. Character requires intentional cultivation. We often pray: “Lord, make me patient.” Then become surprised when life provides opportunities to practise patience. We ask for kindness, then meet difficult people. Ask for humility, then receive correction. Ask for forgiveness, then encounter offence. Christlike character develops as God's Spirit works within us and we repeatedly choose obedience in real situations. Don't despise today's ordinary opportunities. The irritating interruption may become today's patience lesson. The unnoticed task may become today's humility lesson. The difficult conversation may become today's gentleness lesson. Transformation happens in actual life.
Declare It Today
“I will intentionally put on Christlike character. By the Holy Spirit's power, I choose compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness and love.”
Let's Pray
Holy Spirit, form the character of Christ in me. Help me recognise today's ordinary opportunities to practise what Scripture teaches. Make my transformation visible in the way I treat people. Amen.
