James challenges a kind of faith that exists only in words. If a brother or sister lacks necessities and we offer spiritual phrases without practical help, what good is that? Living faith acts. This does not contradict salvation by grace. Good works do not purchase salvation. They demonstrate the reality of faith. If I say I trust God with money but refuse every opportunity for generosity, something needs examination. If I say I love people but never allow love to inconvenience me, the same is true. If I say I believe God's Word but continually refuse its direction, my confession has become disconnected from life. Faith becomes visible through obedience. Ask today: What does what I believe require me to do?

“My faith will not remain only in words. Because I trust God, I will respond with practical obedience, love and good works.”
Let's Pray
Father, expose any gap between what I say I believe and how I live. Let genuine faith produce visible obedience and compassion in me. Amen.
