Love When It Costs You

Day 155

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

1 John 3:16–18

Pause & Reflect

John points to Jesus: “By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us.” Then John moves love from theology into practice. Don't love merely in word. Love in action and truth. Real love eventually costs something. Time. Convenience. Attention. Resources. Pride. Forgiveness. Sometimes love means showing up when you would rather stay home. Sometimes it means listening when you are tired. Sometimes it means giving. Sometimes it means speaking a difficult truth rather than preserving comfortable silence. Sacrificial love does not mean allowing yourself to be endlessly exploited. Jesus' love was both sacrificial and truthful. Biblical love seeks another person's genuine good. Ask today: Where can my love become practical?

Declare It Today

“I will not love only with words. By God's grace, I will allow love to become practical, truthful and sacrificial.”

Let's Pray

Jesus, thank You for showing me what love looks like. Open my eyes to opportunities to love practically today and give me wisdom to serve without enabling what is harmful. Amen. JOY
