Pause & Reflect
The Holy Spirit is not merely an influence, atmosphere, emotion or spiritual energy. He is God. In Acts 5, Peter confronts Ananias for lying to the Holy Spirit and then describes what has happened as lying to God. This matters enormously for how we understand the Christian life. We do not manipulate the Holy Spirit. We worship God. We do not treat Him like spiritual power we can learn to control. We surrender to Him. Scripture speaks of the Spirit teaching, speaking, guiding, interceding and being grieved. These are not descriptions of an impersonal force. When we reduce the Holy Spirit to an experience we want to have, we miss the greater privilege: God Himself dwells with His people. Our desire should therefore be greater than seeking manifestations, feelings or extraordinary moments. We should desire to know, honour and obey God.
Declare It Today
“The Holy Spirit is God. I will honour Him with reverence and refuse to reduce His presence to an emotion, experience or power for my own purposes.”
Let's Pray
Holy Spirit, forgive me for every shallow or distorted understanding I have held about You. Teach me through Scripture to know and honour You rightly. Let my life reflect reverence for Your holy presence. Amen.
