Thirsting for God

Day 28

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Psalm 42:1–2

Read Scripture in Context →

Pause & Reflect

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants after you, God.” The psalmist doesn't describe mild spiritual interest. He describes thirst. We know what physical hunger feels like, but spiritual appetite can be easier to ignore. We can fill our schedules, minds and attention so completely that we barely notice how thirsty our souls have become. Sometimes we respond to inner emptiness by consuming more—more entertainment, more scrolling, more achievement, more shopping, more activity. Yet some thirst cannot be satisfied by more stimulation. It is thirst for God. Spiritual hunger can be cultivated. The more deeply you encounter God through Scripture, prayer and worship, the more precious His presence becomes. Ask God to make you hungry for Him again.

Declare It Today

“My soul was created for God. I will not expect temporary things to satisfy a thirst only He can meet. I will cultivate hunger for His presence and His Word.”

Let's Pray

God, awaken spiritual hunger in me. Where distraction has dulled my appetite for You, draw my heart back. Help me recognise the things I use to fill places only You can satisfy. I thirst for the living God. Amen.
