Pause & Reflect
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Stillness can feel uncomfortable when we are accustomed to solving, organising, planning and carrying responsibility. We may even confuse constant activity with faithfulness. Psalm 46 presents stillness in the context of upheaval. The invitation is not to pretend nothing is happening. It is to stop striving as though everything ultimately depends upon us. There are things you are responsible for today. And there are things you simply cannot control. Wisdom learns the difference. Being still before God is an act of trust. It says, I will do what You have entrusted to me, but I refuse to carry what belongs to You. Put down the imaginary responsibility of holding the whole world together. God is God. You are not. And that is very good news.
Declare It Today
“God is sovereign, and I do not have to control everything. I will faithfully do what He has given me to do and surrender what belongs in His hands.”
Let's Pray
God, quiet the striving within me. Show me what is mine to do and what I need to release. Teach me to rest without becoming passive and to work without believing everything depends upon me. I choose to be still and remember that You are God. Amen.
