Not My Will, but Yours

In Gethsemane, Jesus prayed honestly. He did not pretend the cross would be easy. He expressed the depth of what He faced: “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me.” Then came surrender: “Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” Biblical surrender is not emotional dishonesty. You can tell God what you want. You can ask Him for another way. You can bring fear, disappointment and longing into prayer. Surrender simply refuses to make our preference the final authority. That prayer can be costly. Sometimes God’s will leads through circumstances we would not choose. Jesus shows us that obedience and anguish can coexist. Faithfulness does not mean pretending the hard thing is easy. It means trusting the Father enough to obey Him through it.
