The Beloved Son

Day 37

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Matthew 3:16–17

Pause & Reflect

At Jesus' baptism, Scripture gives us a beautiful scene. The Son comes from the water. The Spirit of God descends. The Father's voice declares: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Before Jesus' public ministry unfolds, His identity is declared. Beloved Son. This passage also gives us a remarkable glimpse of Father, Son and Holy Spirit together. Christian faith is centred upon the triune God—not three gods, but the one God revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And notice that Jesus' identity precedes the public works that follow. We often reverse this. We work to become worthy. Achieve to become valuable. Perform to secure approval. For those united to Christ, our relationship with God begins with grace rather than an exhausting attempt to earn adoption through performance. Good works matter. Obedience matters. But they flow from what God has done, rather than purchasing His saving love.

Declare It Today

“Jesus is the beloved Son of the Father. Through Christ, I receive God's grace rather than trying to earn salvation through performance. I will obey God from relationship, not as an attempt to make myself worthy.”

Let's Pray

Father, thank You for revealing Your Son. Free me from the exhausting need to prove my worth through performance. Root my identity in Christ and let obedience grow from gratitude, love and relationship with You. Amen.
