Pause & Reflect
Jesus does not say: “Try harder and produce fruit.” He says: “Remain in me.” A branch bears fruit because it stays connected to the vine. This picture is essential for spiritual growth. We can easily turn Christianity into determined self-improvement: be more patient, pray more, control your tongue, forgive better, serve harder. Those things matter. But lasting fruit grows from communion with Christ. Abiding means continuing to depend upon Him. Receiving His Word. Praying. Obeying. Returning when we wander. Recognising that apart from Him we cannot produce the life He calls us to live. The goal of spiritual discipline is not independence. It is deeper dependence.
Declare It Today
“Jesus is the true source of spiritual fruit in my life. I will remain in Him and refuse to build my Christian life on self-sufficiency.”
Let's Pray
Jesus, keep me close to You. Forgive me for trying to produce spiritual fruit through my own strength. Teach me to abide in Your Word, depend upon Your grace and obey You from relationship. Amen.
