Pause & Reflect
Paul makes a powerful statement: “I will not be brought under the power of anything.” Not everything permissible is beneficial. That principle reaches into many areas. Food. Shopping. Entertainment. Social media. Work. Exercise. Approval. Even good things can become controlling things. One useful question is: “Can I comfortably say no to this?” If the answer is repeatedly no, pay attention. Self-control does not require treating every pleasure as suspicious. God gives good gifts to enjoy with gratitude. But gifts make terrible masters. Sometimes fasting from a legitimate pleasure reveals how much authority it has quietly gained. Freedom includes the ability to enjoy something without needing it to rule you.
Declare It Today
“I refuse to be mastered by any appetite. I will receive God's good gifts with gratitude while keeping them beneath the lordship of Christ.”
Let's Pray
Holy Spirit, reveal anything that has begun controlling me. Give me wisdom to enjoy good things rightly and courage to limit or surrender anything gaining unhealthy power. Amen.
