Paul teaches that God's Spirit enables believers to understand what God has graciously given. We need spiritual illumination. That does not mean Scripture contains secret meanings available only to unusually spiritual people. Nor does it mean careful reading no longer matters. The Holy Spirit opens our understanding so that God's revealed truth is received not merely as information but as spiritual reality. There is a difference between knowing that God is faithful and learning to trust His faithfulness when your future feels uncertain. Between defining grace and living as someone who has received it. Between explaining forgiveness and actually forgiving. Ask the Spirit to move truth from the page into your thinking, affections and behaviour. The goal is not simply: “I understand this verse.” The deeper goal is: “This truth is transforming me.”
